Secondary

Secondary years is a very critical time where the students are learning more challenging academic advancement. It is where we lay the educational pillars for our students so they can flourish God’s given potential. Through every lesson and learning activity, we emphasize that God’s truth is the only way to reach the highest knowledge.

Curriculum Overview

SMP Elyon Christian Secondary School uses the Cambridge International IGCSE program as the main curriculum. Our program prepares students from years 7 to 9 with both international and national curriculum. Students will sit for International General Certificate for Secondary Education (IGCSE) at grade 10 as the end of the international curriculum pathway. Students are also equipped with Mandarin skills as a communication tool alongside English and Indonesian fluency. From grade 7, the students are prepared to achieve proficiency and have the option to take Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) or the Chinese Proficiency Test.

holistic education

Christian values continuously become the strong pillar of learning. Students are guided to perceive that God is the ultimate source of knowledge. We believe that academic achievement is not the only purpose of education systems. We design our curriculum not only as academic resources for our students but also as a place to rehearse for our students before entering the real world out there. We provide variant programs that emphasize holistic education to provide various skills that will help students in the real world.

Conceptual Understanding

We prepare students to develop scientific curiosity and help them maintain a lasting passion for learning. Cambridge International Curriculum allows us encouraging students to develop their conceptual understanding: a firm grasp of the subject’s key concepts. We believe in the value of studying a subject in-depth and developing the skills they need to succeed at a further level. Understanding the key concepts will help students develop a deep insight into the subject, open up new ways of thinking, and build links between real-life experiences.

An Enriching Learning Journey

We hope to foster a love of learning in each student we have in our care. We provide opportunities for students to gain responsibility, to be well-rounded, and to reach their highest potential. Students are encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, and pursue their interests. They are given the same opportunity to grow as a special individual. We believe that this step is very important to build a strong foundation on their educational journey.

Christian Value

Starting from Primary 1, students are encouraged to read the Bible and reflect on His words daily through morning devotion. Primary years is all about giving a good foundation for their learning journey. It is important to make sure that students understand that God’s love is the core of all knowledge. We also implement our school values in each subject and class activities. Students learn to give and share their blessings through charity projects and the Shepherd leadership program. In the upper primary level, sex education and retreat are scheduled. Through this program, We encourage each student to build a close and intimate relationship with God.

Integrated Curriculum

The Cambridge IGCSE has wide recognition from higher education institutions as evidence of academic ability. Many universities require a combination of the National Curriculum and Cambridge IGCSE to meet their entry requirements. Mandarin competency also plays an important role in our curriculum in order to give students various options in the future. Our secondary program also encourages students to enrich their digital literacy through coding and robotic subjects. Students do not only learn about basic ICT skills but also applicable skills in programming that will answer 21st Century needs.

Global Citizenship

Our school provides a wholesome learning experience in three languages, English, Mandarin, and Bahasa Indonesia to develop their communication skills and prepare them for the next level. We ensure students acquire their language competency at correct steps and fun ways based on their age.

We use English as the language of instruction and provide Chinese lessons. Students enrich their vocabularies and verbal expression through storytelling, songs, and role-plays. In Playgroups they start by learning Phonics, tracing, and communicate through full sentences. In Kindergarten, students start to learn reading and writing both in English, Mandarin, and also Bahasa Indonesia.

Self- Development

Elyon Christian Secondary provides outstanding support system for students, especially in terms of character and emotional development. The living value class is designed to provide space for students to discuss and express their thought based on school values. Students also can book private session with the counselor to seek guidance on spiritual, academic, and personal matters. We offer endless opportunities to develop their capabilities. Through performing art subject, they are able to choose one out of four classes offered (Theater, Orchestra, Choir, and Fine Art) based on their talent and interest. Secondary students are also obliged to join club activities to enrich their soft skills in various field that designed to meet 21st century trends. The CONTAINER (Stands for Clubs for Talent Innovation and Interest) provides opportunities to meet professionals source and learn from them.
